The Geological Map of New Zealand 1:1 000 000 was compiled by Steve Edbrooke (Kermadec Islands, North Island and northern South Island), Jane Forsyth (southern South Island, Stewart Island and the sub-Antarctic islands) and Richard Jongens (Fiordland), and map design, digital cartography and GIS development was by David Heron. Digital capture was by Maureen Coomer, Aleksandra Lukovic, Belinda Smith Lyttle and Delia Strong. The map was compiled almost entirely from published maps from the QMAP 1:250 000 Geological Map of New Zealand series, with minor updating where more recent data was available. Compilers of the QMAP sheets were Andrew Allibone, David Barrell, John Begg, Graham Bishop, Kyle Bland, Fred Brook, Roger Cooper, Simon Cox, Steve Edbrooke, Jane Forsyth, Mike Isaac, Mike Johnston, Richard Jongens, Peter Kamp, Julie Lee, Graham Leonard, Colin Mazengarb, Simon Nathan, Mark Rattenbury, Ian Speden, Pat Suggate, Dougal Townsend, Ian Turnbull, Adam Vonk, and Colin Wilson. Geology of the Kermadec, Bounty, Snares, Antipodes, Auckland and Campbell islands, not included in the QMAP coverage, was compiled from a variety of published sources and, for the sub-Antarctic islands, recent unpublished mapping by Ian Turnbull. The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) provided the bathymetric data. Land Information New Zealand provided the topographic data.
