This service is a joint contribution by the geological surveys in Finland, Norway and Sweden to the OneGeology initiative. The Geological Map of Fennoscandian Shield outlines the main features of Finland's, Norway's and Sweden's bedrock geology. The map is composed of data resulting from several mapping campaigns, performed over decades and compiled and archived in digital format. Due to the variation of quality and scales of different mapping campaigns the level of accuracy in the underlying national database is variable. This service includes layers showing bedrock areas defined by lithology, dyke swarms and tectonic structures.

Available map layers (3)

Nordic SGU 1:1M Bedrock Lithology - Fennoscandian Shield (NORDIC_SGU_1M_BLT)

This dataset shows bedrock areas defined by rock types and ages covering onshore areas of Finland, Norway and Sweden. The bedrock areas are also assigned to tectonic units. The map is composed of data resulting from several mapping campaigns, performed over decades, compiled and archived in digital format, published or prepared in manuscript format between 1989 and 2001. Due to the variation of quality and scales of different mapping campaigns the level of accuracy in the underlying national database is variable. The database is designed for presentation in the 1:1M scale.

Nordic SGU 1:1M Bedrock Lithology Dykes - Fennoscandian shield (NORDIC_SGU_1M_BLTD)

This dataset shows dyke swarms defined by rock types and ages covering onshore areas of Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Nordic SGU 1:1M Bedrock Structures - Fennoscandian shield (NORDIC_SGU_1M_BST)

This dataset shows tectonic structures covering Finland, Norway and Sweden.
